A week ago, I got an escrow refund check (unexpectedly) on the exact day I had an unexpected expense that would have caused some hardship financially.... did Jehovah bless me?? Funny, as I opened the check, I realized that at one time I would have attributed it to this! But, since I'm not going to meetings or out in FS, it must be Satan blessing me.

You are right, they like to use the "if your neighbor's house was on fire, you would tell them!!" illustration / appeal to action. Sounds like most JW's no longer think there is a fire to be concerned about.

What about you? When is the last time the Witnesses visited? Were you there when they came by, or did they just leave "droppings" on your doorstep? Finally, to put some perspective on it, are you in a sparsely populated area, a suburb, or in the urban core of a major city?

Having participated in several assembly parts, I can say that Snake's description of how it works is 100% spot on. The parts are rehearsed, massaged, what you say is tweaked and "tuned", and you say it JUST LIKE THEY FINALLY APPROVED OF IT when you get up on the stage.

The statement suggests that the two are at odds with each other but my belief is that the best source for practical advise and common sense is the bible (and the Holy Spirit).
I believe the Pew survey was addressing that very point... for most religious folks, their Bible beliefs coincide nicely with their "practical experience and common sense". BUT... if you find yourself in a situation where what you believe from the Bible conflicts with your common sense and practical experience, which would you rely on? For JW's, Mormons, and Evangelicals, they'll ignore their common sense and go with what the Bible says.
